A British film based on the true story of John Davidson. It follows his coming of age - initially carefree, then marked by alienation and rejection from the world around him.

A turning point comes when John meets Dottie, the energetic mother of his former classmate. Through this relationship, he finds support and understanding, and his shame and isolation gradually transform into strength and the ability to face his own life - and sometimes even use his disability with wit to raise awareness. The British royal family might even take notice.
