The Source

An elegant doctor, Ingrid (Aňa Geislerová), works in the mid-1980s at a remote provincial hospital. Trapped in an exhausted marriage and stalled career, she devotes most of her time to her patients - delivering babies and ending unwanted pregnancies. She also performs sterilizations on Romani women without their full understanding of the consequences.

A new friendship with a young hospital attendant, Agáta, prompts Ingrid to see things differently and begin questioning the rules she has followed without thought. Ivan Ostrochovski's drama opens an unresolved chapter of Czechoslovak history, when the state decided whether people could have children.
