Two Decis of Ink

A distinctive documentary portrait by Ester Geislerová offers an intimate journey into the inner world of her father, the renowned Japanologist and calligrapher Petr Geisler, who died prematurely. Drawn from family archives, personal letters, and friends' memories, the film constructs a multi-layered portrait of a fragile artist whose life unfolded between the grey reality of normalized Czechoslovakia and the pulsing Tokyo of the 1980s.

The film explores human failures and triumphs, the longing for freedom, and the attempt to capture the fleeting trace of a man who remained in many ways a mystery to his own family.

The film will have its world premiere at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Special Presentation section.
