Romería

With her mother's diary in hand, eighteen-year-old Marina travels to the western coast of Spain to the places where her parents once fell in love - parents she never had the chance to know. Before she can make sense of the sea of unfamiliar relatives, secrets begin to surface, burning more intensely than the summer sun and salt spray even after all these years. From fragmented and often contradictory memories, Marina pieces together an unexpected portrait of her parents' fateful, destructive love.

Director Carla Simón returns to her own coming-of-age at the turn of the millennium with bittersweet tenderness and nostalgia. This partially autobiographical story about searching for one's roots received enthusiastic acclaim in the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
