Advanced Montage - For the Advanced and Non-Advanced

The workshop runs from 10:00 to 17:00 with a one-hour lunch break. While most improv courses focus on building better scenes, this workshop concentrates on tools for building better shows.

Montage is one of the freest and most flexible forms of long-form improv. Instead of a single story, players create a series of connected scenes that grow through patterns, themes, relationships, and bold transitions. Throughout the day we will work on recognizing opportunities for cuts, linking seemingly unrelated scenes, using physicality as a source of ideas, and trusting the ensemble. We will also explore loose opening sequences, narration, and other techniques. Strong cuts, visual storytelling, ensemble awareness, and confident transitions will enrich almost any improv format - whether you play short form, narrative, Armando, Harold, or pure freestyle.

The title says "Advanced", but prior montage experience is not required. You just need to feel confident improvising scenes and want to expand your long-form repertoire. Capacity is limited to 12 participants to ensure enough stage time, coaching, and individual feedback.

The instructor is Nick Ford, creator and host of Prague Improv Extravaganza. He has studied and performed improv in a dozen countries across four continents, and in Prague performs with Improv Academy and The Imperfectionists. He completed extended training programmes at Flock Theater in Amsterdam, with Inbal Lori in Berlin, and at The Free Association in London.
