Smichov: Neo-Renaissance, Art Nouveau and Modern

The walk begins at the Church of St. Wenceslas and the adjacent Baroque Portheim Palace, built by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. The route continues through Art Nouveau buildings by Alois Censky - the Market House and National House - and the house where Albert Einstein lived.

Participants will walk along Janacek Embankment with its array of Art Nouveau and Neo-Renaissance buildings and visit sites connected to Jakob Arbes, theatre figure Pavel Svanda of Semcice, architects Josef Zitek and Josef Schulz, and painter Julius Maraek. The tour also covers the history of Staropramen brewery and the Golden Angel fresco in the complex of modern buildings by Jean Nouvel.

The walk is led by guide Martin Belohradsky, lasts 1.5-2 hours, and ends at the Andel tram stop. Meeting point is in front of the Church of St. Wenceslas on October 14 Square (near the Andel stop). The terrain is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Children under 12 enter free.
