In 1899, the murder of young Anežka Hrůzová in Polná sparked a wave of antisemitism that became known as the Hilsner affair - one of the most significant manifestations of antisemitism on Czech territory in the 19th century.

New evidence points to the actual perpetrator, yet Czech courts have still refused to clear the name of Leopold Hilsner, a Jewish youth unjustly accused of the murder.
