Traces of Jewish Presence in Prague 2

Novoměstská radnice, p.o., Prague

This travelling exhibition presents a little-known and overlooked chapter of Vinohrady's history. The Jewish community in Prague's Vinohrady was among the largest in Czechoslovakia and is connected with many notable and fascinating figures. The exhibition was initiated and organized in collaboration with the Jewish Museum in Prague by the Prague 2 municipal district in 2014 in the Mažhaus of the New Town Hall. The project was created by documentary filmmaker Martin Šmok. On fifteen information panels, visitors can learn about little-known or entirely unknown facts and view dozens of previously unpublished photographs. Among the most interesting exhibits is a tile that survived as the only remaining artifact from the former synagogue in Vinohrady. The exhibition is housed in the cashier's office of the New Town Hall tower — if you visit and gaze at the panorama of Vinohrady from the gallery, you can imagine, alongside the two towers of St. Ludmila Church, the two towers of the synagogue on Sázavská Street. Entry to the exhibition is free. Open Tuesday–Sunday 10–18, Monday closed (exceptions: Easter Monday and 1 May open). In winter the tower is closed and reopens for the season on the first spring day. The exhibition runs until 13 December 2026.
