For Millie, working as a housemaid for Nina and Andrew Winchester is her last chance to start over and close a dark chapter of her past. She doesn't realize, however, that the secrets her new employers hide behind closed doors are far greater than her own.

At first, she pays little attention to the strange "coincidences" she encounters during her daily cleaning, picking up their daughter from school, and preparing family dinners. She also overlooks Nina's odd behavior, false accusations, and cruelties she increasingly has to face. Millie has experienced worse things in life than the whims of a spoiled woman from a wealthy neighborhood - and she desperately needs this job.

But Andrew seems increasingly troubled and lonely. When she looks into his eyes, it's hard not to imagine what it would be like to stop being merely a servant and become the new lady of the house - especially when the current one becomes more unbearable each day and has stopped taking care of herself. And perhaps it wouldn't have to remain just imagination. The Winchesters don't know who Millie really is. They don't know what she's capable of.
