About the venue: Šumava Museum Sušice

The Šumava Museum in Sušice was founded in 1880 by local teacher Josef Holík, making it the first museum in the Bohemian Forest foothills. It occupies a Renaissance townhouse with a Gothic core dating from the second half of the 15th century on Náměstí Svobody. Permanent exhibitions cover the history of match production - manufacturing began here in 1839 and grew into a globally significant industry - and the glassmaking traditions of the Šumava region. The highlight is a mechanical nativity scene five metres long, among the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. The museum is part of a network of four branches, including Kašperské Hory, Železná Ruda and Dobrá Voda.
