European Protected Areas Day in Czech National Parks 2026

Plšíkova zahrada, Krásná Lípa

Czech national parks are celebrating European Protected Areas Day together for the first time this year, an annual event established by the EUROPARC Federation on May 24. Under the motto "Connected by Nature," the national parks of Czech Switzerland, Krkonoše, Podyjí, and Šumava have prepared a rich programme for families with children, nature lovers, and specialists on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026. In Czech Switzerland National Park, Plšíkova Garden in Krásná Lípa will transform into an interactive area on Saturday, May 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. Park staff will showcase modern technology including drones, firefighting equipment, and forestry school work. Visitors will see bird-of-prey demonstrations and special stations where they can experience life with disabilities and overcoming everyday barriers. The atmosphere will be enhanced by regional producers and creative workshops. Plšíkova Garden was created from the grounds of a former children's health resort, where the Czech Switzerland National Park Administration is headquartered. After renovation in 2023, it is freely accessible to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The celebrations are also among the first outputs of the joint project of all Czech national parks "Responsibly into Nature," focused on educating visitors about sustainable tourism and responsible behaviour in nature, supported by the Swiss-Czech Cooperation Programme II.
