M. D. Rettigová Gastronomic Festival 2026

The M. D. Rettigová Gastronomic Festival takes place on May 23, 2026 on Smetana Square in Litomyšl from 10:00 to 22:00. The festival is organized by Smetana House in cooperation with the City of Litomyšl, the Czech Kennel Club – Eastern Bohemia branch, the Polička Secondary School of Hospitality and Crafts, the Veselka Restaurant and Microbrewery, and Smetana's Litomyšl, o.p.s. The festival president is Václav Šmerda, honorary chairman of the Eastern Bohemia branch of the Czech Association of Chefs and Pastry Chefs.

The Saturday programme opens with a procession to the grave of M. D. Rettigová, where a traditional tribute to the pioneer of Czech cuisine takes place. On Smetana Square, visitors can taste regional and modern gastronomy – from potato pancakes and piroshki to French macarons and creative street food, all served in tasting portions. The stage features discussions about gastronomy, musical performances, and cooking shows. On Toulovcova Square, there is a competition for cooking traditional goulash in cauldrons (entries by May 17), the Rajská OPEN competition (entries by May 22 at 1:00 PM), competitions for the best babka cake and, new this year, the best children's cupcake.

On Sunday, May 25, a communal lunch is held in a large tent on Smetana Square – roasted goose leg with a variety of cabbage and dumplings, prepared by the Polička Secondary School of Hospitality and Crafts. Lunch vouchers must be purchased in advance (reservations from May 5, 2026, tel.: 461 612 161); price in advance 375 CZK, on-site 395 CZK. Entry to all other events is free. The festival is held under the patronage of the Pardubice Region Governor and the Mayor of Litomyšl.
