International Museum Day falls on May 18 each year. In 2026, it falls on a Monday, so some events are moved to Sunday, May 17. Prague joins global celebrations that traditionally open museum doors free or at reduced admission. This year's theme is "Museums Connecting a Divided World" – events support UN goals aimed at reducing inequalities, promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, and strengthening global partnerships for sustainable development.

The National Gallery Prague will open all collection exhibitions free of charge on Sunday, May 17: Old Masters I (Schwarzenberg Palace), Old Masters II (Šternberg Palace), Medieval Art in Bohemia and Central Europe 1200–1550 (Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia), and exhibitions in the Trade Fair Palace – Art of the Long Century, First Republic, Architecture for All, End of Black and White, and Art of Asia Across Space and Time. The programme includes guided tours, short commentaries, and workshops. The Trade Fair Palace also participates in the Prague 7 galleries festival "We Are Open".

The National Agricultural Museum (Kostelní 44, Prague 7) opens all exhibitions and displays free of charge on May 18. Guided tours will take place at 11:00 and 14:00 (approximately 60 minutes, free) and afternoon tours of the otherwise inaccessible civil defence nuclear shelter. The Museum of Decorative Arts offers free admission to collection exhibitions. The National Technical Museum provides reduced admission: adults 100 CZK, children 6–15 years 50 CZK. International Museum Day is followed by the 22nd Museum Night Festival, running from May 15 to June 13, 2026.
