The Lichnovskys on the Road – Travels and Collecting Activities of a Noble Family at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries

Hradec nad Moravicí

The exhibition and thematic guided tour "The Lichnovskys on the Road – A Journey Around the World" is part of the 16th edition of the National Heritage Institute's project "In the Footsteps of Noble Families," which carries the subtitle "Nobility on the Road" in 2026. The project explores why, where, and how members of noble families embarked on journeys and how their experiences from both nearby and distant corners of the world influenced daily life and the appearance of castle interiors. At Hradec nad Moravicí Castle, visitors and school groups are offered guided tours focused on collections from Japan and China that the Lichnovský family brought back from their travels. The travel theme comes alive at more than forty National Heritage Institute monuments throughout the Czech Republic through new and adapted guided tours, exhibitions, and thematic events. The sixteenth edition of the cycle transports visitors to the "long 19th century," when the development of rail, maritime, and later automobile transport enabled faster movement across Europe and opened the way to discovering exotic lands in Asia, Africa, and America. The castle grounds are open from May 1, 2026: in May and June, Tuesday–Friday 10:00–16:00, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays 9:00–17:00, closed Mondays.
