Prague in Detail
Klášter minoritů Praha, Prague
The exhibition "Prague in Detail – Anatomy of the Beauty of Prague Monuments" presents the largest collection to date of works by academic painter and graphic artist Tomáš Rygl (*1968, Jihlava). In his works, Rygl does not present architecture as a static backdrop, but as a living organism – his unique "X-ray vision" method allows viewers to look beneath the surface of many significant buildings and understand their inner logic and principles that an ordinary visitor cannot see in the real world. Through 36 paintings, visitors can "walk" through Prague from Prague Castle to the Basilica of St. James: passing through Hradčany with Strahov Monastery, Loreto, St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, Malá Strana with the Church of St. Nicholas to the New Town and Vyšehrad. Also revealed are places such as the National Museum, National Theatre, Jerusalem Synagogue, Rudolfinum, Old Town Hall, St. Agnes Convent, the Church of Our Lady before Týn, and the Municipal House. The exhibition is curated by David Černý, a historian, publicist, and popularizer of Prague's history and architecture. Rygl is also the author of a hand-painted panoramic map of Prague, which he has continuously updated since 1994 and which now covers over 30 m². The exhibition runs until 31 August 2026. Address: Malá Štupartská 635/6, Prague 1. Opening hours: Monday–Saturday 10:00–18:00, Sunday 12:00–18:00.
