Rose

In early 17th-century Germany, a peculiar soldier arrives in a remote village. Bearing a scar on his face but otherwise gentle in appearance and manner, the young man claims to have inherited a neglected farm. Despite initial suspicion, he wins the locals' trust through discipline and hard work - until he is to father a child with the daughter of one villager, and his carefully constructed identity heads toward a fateful revelation.

Following Michael and Angelo, Markus Schleinzer creates another precise and painfully timely psychological portrait of a person facing oppression by mainstream society. For her portrayal of Rose, a woman for whom freedom is attainable only when she wears trousers, Sandra Hüller was awarded the Silver Bear for acting at the Berlin Film Festival.
