Sex and Death in Camp Miasma

Camp Miasma, the cult slasher franchise from the 1980s, returns. Enthusiastic director Kris is obsessed with restoring the series to its former glory while cleansing it of the problematic elements that characterized genre films of that era. When she meets Billy (Gillian Anderson), the lead actress from the original film, the two spiral into an intoxicating bloody delirium that blurs the line between the movie screen and reality.

Behind the camera stands Jane Schoenbrun, creator of the horror-tinged queer films Television Illuminated and We're All Going to the World's Fair. Here Schoenbrun lovingly and admiringly deconstructs the slasher genre into its component parts, reassembling it in a new, more empathetic and open-minded spirit. The result, as they describe it, is like a portrait of a girl in flames set in the world of Friday the 13th.
