Domovina

It is 1949 and Thomas Mann arrives in Germany after sixteen years - accompanied by his daughter Erika - to receive two awards: one in Frankfurt under American administration, the other in Weimar controlled by the Soviets. Midway through their journey, the pair is struck by news of a sudden family tragedy.

The film can be read as a probe into post-war society, an intimate family drama, a road movie balancing between myths and reality, and as a contemporary reflection on the role of the intellectual in a time of upheaval. Starring Hanns Zischler and Sandra Hüller, directed by Łukasz Żal.
