Olie Brice Quartet + In Cahoots feat. Ingrid Laubrock

Olie Brice Quartet continues the London tradition of avant-garde jazz from the 1960s with an expressive and profound approach. The ensemble features British double bassist, composer and improviser Olie Brice alongside saxophonist Rachel Musson, pianist Alexander Hawkins and drummer Willem Glaser. Their music draws from original compositions while leaving ample space for free improvisation and spontaneous dialogue. Their debut album All It Was captures the band moving between fragility, urgency and open free jazz expression.

In the second half of the evening, German musicians In Cahoots feat. Ingrid Laubrock take the stage. The project builds on the quartet Gratkowski / Zoubek / Landfermann / Mahnig, which since 2016 has developed freely improvised music. Following the release of their debut album Torbid Daylight, the ensemble renamed itself in 2023 and began working with compositions by Frank Gratkowski - while still maintaining ample space for open improvisation. In its quintet form, the band is expanded by saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock on tenor and soprano saxophone; this expanded ensemble had its premiere in 2023 in Darmstadt.

The concerts take place as part of the Jazz Goes to Town festival.
