Rose

In early 17th-century Germany, a peculiar soldier arrives in a remote village. Bearing a scar on his face but otherwise gentle in appearance and manner, the young man claims to have inherited a neglected farm. Through discipline and hard work, he gradually wins the trust of the locals - until the moment he is to father a child with the daughter of one of the villagers, and his carefully constructed identity heads toward a fateful revelation.

Following Michael and Angelo, Markus Schleinzer creates another precise and painfully timely psychological portrait of a person facing oppression by mainstream society. For her portrayal of Rose - a character for whom freedom is attainable only when wearing trousers - Sandra Hüller won the Silver Bear for acting at the Berlin Film Festival.
