Sex and Death in Camp Miasma

Camp Miasma, a cult slasher franchise from the 1980s, returns. Enthusiastic director Kris is obsessed with restoring the series to its former glory while cleansing it of the problematic elements that characterized genre films of that era. When she meets Billy (Gillian Anderson), the lead actress from the original film, the two spiral together into a bloody delirium that blurs the line between cinema and reality.

Behind the camera is Jane Schoenbrun, creator of the horror-tinged queer films We're All Going to the World's Fair and Illumination. Schoenbrun deconstructs the slasher genre with affection and reassembles it in a new, more empathetic and open-minded spirit. The result, as they describe it, is Portrait of a Girl on Fire meets Friday the 13th.
