Sex and Death at Camp Miasma
University Cinema Scala, Brno · 180 Kč · ≈ 7 €
Camp Miasma, the cult slasher franchise from the 1980s, returns. Enthusiastic director Kris is obsessed with restoring the series to its former glory while purging it of the problematic elements that characterized genre films of that era. When she meets Billy (Gillian Anderson), the lead actress from the original film, the two descend together into a bloody delirium that blurs the line between the movie screen and reality.
Behind the camera is Jane Schoenbrun, creator of the horror-tinged queer films We're All Going to the World's Fair and Osvícení televizí. Schoenbrun dissects the slasher genre with love and admiration, breaking it down to its elements and reassembling it in a new, more empathetic and open-minded spirit - a work the director describes as a portrait of a girl in flames within the world of Friday the 13th.
