Bitter Holidays

An aging acclaimed director named Raúl writes a story about the enchanting Else, who arrives on sunny Lanzarote in 2004 to escape a life crisis and start anew. But the events and characters in his screenplay suspiciously resemble the fates of those close to him - and they begin to recognize themselves in it, asking uncomfortable questions. Where does inspiration end and privacy begin?

With his most personal film, Pedro Almodóvar returned to the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival. The film builds on strong female characters, vibrant Spanish atmosphere, and striking color palette, which are typical of Almodóvar's work.
