About: Národní divadlo

Prague's National Theatre serves as the Czech Republic's principal stage and stands as one of the most significant symbols of Czech national culture. This neo-Renaissance structure on the Vltava riverbank was constructed through a nationwide public fundraising campaign, inaugurated in 1881 with the premiere of Smetana's opera Libuše, and reopened following a catastrophic fire in 1883. Four artistic companies - Opera, Ballet, Drama and Laterna magika - perform across its four venues: the historic main building, the State Opera, the Estates Theatre and the New Stage.
