Who Plays Doesn't Grumble! Czechoslovak Toys After 1945
Muzeum Komenského v Přerově, Přerov
The exhibition "Who Plays Doesn't Grumble!" at the Komenský Museum in Přerov offers a unique perspective on the development of Czechoslovak toys from the post-war period until 1990. The official opening took place on 19 March 2026 in the Ceremonial Castle Hall of Přerov Castle, and the exhibition is open to the public from 20 March to 20 September 2026. Visitors can admire hundreds of exhibits loaned by private collector Jiří Jemelik, supplemented by items from the collections of the Komenský Museum in Přerov, the Regional Museum in Olomouc, the Záhoří Museum, and the Vinary kindergarten. The toys are displayed not only in display cases but also in their natural settings – in a sandbox, a children's room, a school club playroom, and a toy shop counter. The exhibition documents not only the manufacturing evolution of toys but also their changing educational and social role – in the 20th century, toys became an important tool for developing children's creativity, aesthetic sensibility, and practical skills. The exhibition was curated by Kristina Sehnálková and Jana Trtíková. The exhibition includes a rich accompanying programme featuring creative workshops, guided tours, lectures, and a themed museum night. Open: Tuesday–Friday 8–17, weekends 9–17.
