Master Jan Hus Celebrations

Every year we commemorate the burning of Master Jan Hus with a state holiday - an event that profoundly shaped Czech history, sparked the Hussite Wars, and foreshadowed the German Reformation and the fragmentation of Catholic universality. We understand the lighting of the fire as an intimate, solemn remembrance of all those who perished in flames, and through this famous day of Jan Hus we also honor the victims of witch trials and the self-immolations of Jan Palach, Zajíc, and others.

The programme at Housův mlýn begins at 18:00. You can look forward to warriors, a screening of the film Jan Hus, interactive games for children, live music, and a special menu. Film armoury tours throughout the evening (tours are not included in the admission price). At 22:00, the lighting of memorial fires.
