Lena Knappova: I'll do my own lashes at Moravian Gallery

Moravská galerie v Brně, Brno

entry dobrovolný v den vernisáže

The Moravian Gallery in Brno presents photographer Lena Knappova's exhibition "I'll do my own lashes" (Své řasy si udělám sama) in the Atrium of Pražák Palace. The exhibition is part of Fashion Year 2026 at the gallery and runs from April 17 to September 13, 2026. The title draws from a phrase heard backstage at fashion shows when someone approaches a model with eyelash curlers – the most vulnerable part of the face. Lena Knappova (born 1995), originally from Trenčín, has been based in France and her work is closely connected to the Paris Fashion Week environment. The artist's approach stems from classical documentary photography with the ability to capture a unique moment, while also incorporating elements of punk and street culture, contrasting with the refined world of haute couture. The exhibition is structured into several thematic sections functioning as independent chapters. Scenographer Marek Cpin transformed the small atrium of Pražák Palace into an almost claustrophobic space mimicking the cramped backstage atmosphere – in the center of a cubic room with black walls stands an installation of dark curtains concealing the artist's favorite photograph. Curator Robert Musil contributed to the selection of photographs from an archive containing several thousand images. For her work to date, Knappova has been awarded first place in the Czech Grand Design award as Photographer of the Year 2024. The opening reception took place on April 16, 2026 from 6:00 PM in the courtyard of Pražák Palace, with voluntary admission on the day of the opening.
