Biennale UMPRUM: Generation Z

Národní galerie, Prague

Free entry

The exhibition "Biennale UMPRUM: Generation Z" was created in partnership between the National Gallery Prague and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. It runs from 27 March to 28 June 2026 on the mezzanine of the Trade Fair Palace (Dukelských hrdinů 47, Prague 7), open Tuesday–Sunday 10–18. Admission is free. The opening took place on 26 March 2026 at 19:00; the programme included a performance by Beata Kotrášová titled "Apocalypse Deluxe" at 20:00 in the Small Hall of the Trade Fair Palace.

The exhibition presents a cross-section of work by 25 students across all departments and disciplines of the Academy — from architecture, design and graphic design to animation, fashion, fine art and art theory. The works are primarily diploma and bachelor projects from the past two years, many of which have already been awarded recognition beyond the school environment. The UMPRUM Biennale returns to the National Gallery Prague after more than a decade. Recurring themes include the blurring of boundaries between virtual and real, nostalgia, the search for authentic identity, embodiment and vulnerability, care and coexistence of human and non-human entities.

The exhibition includes a catalogue with three essays on generational experience and changing relationships with virtuality; the exhibition architecture and graphic design were created by Academy graduates. The curator is Michal Novotný, director of the Collection of Art after 1945 at the National Gallery Prague. The accompanying programme includes guided tours (in Czech and English), a workshop for children 6+ and a play area for children 1.5–5 years old.
