Bluegrass band COP was founded in 1978 and quickly began collecting awards - winning the Porta prize twice (1980 and 1981) and receiving the Anděl award in the Folk & Country category in 2002. The band has released 10 albums and regularly performs at major music festivals.

In 1982-1983, most members emigrated to the USA and Canada. The band was saved by Míša Leicht, who remained and revived the ensemble.

About the venue: Měšťanská Beseda

Měšťanská beseda is a Neo-Renaissance building with Art Nouveau décor, erected by the Pilsen citizens' association in 1901 and ceremonially opened on 29 December of that year. Following an extensive renovation completed in 2005, it serves as one of the most important cultural centres in Pilsen. The venue houses several halls and salons, the Beseda Cinema, the Jonáš Theatre and an Art Nouveau café, with a total capacity of over 1,000 persons. Concerts, theatre performances, balls, film screenings, festivals, lectures and children's events take place here almost daily. The building is a listed cultural monument and received the Building of the Year 2005 award.

COP is a Czech bluegrass band from Plzeň, founded in 1978. The group is led by singer and guitarist Miroslav "Míša" Leicht and has won the prestigious Porta festival three times (1980, 1981, 1987). In 2002 they received the Anděl award in the Folk & Country category. They remain one of the most active and enduring acts on the Czech folk and bluegrass scene.

Míša Leicht (born Miroslav Leicht, 1962, Plzeň) is a guitarist, singer, songwriter and festival presenter who has led the bluegrass band COP since its founding in 1978. When most members emigrated in the early 1980s, he was the one who stayed and rebuilt the group. He has also played with the bands Forehand and Galerie, and works as a music dramaturg.

About: Martin Fridrich

Martin Fridrich is a Czech banjo player from Plzeň, a member of the bluegrass group COP. He took over the five-string banjo seat in 2000, succeeding Vladislav Ptáček. He is also a respected banjo teacher. Since 2000, COP has kept a stable lineup with Fridrich on banjo and vocals.
