The Holocaust of Pilsen's Jews — Great Synagogue in Plzeň, Plzeň

The exhibition explores the fates of specific Jewish residents of the Pilsen region after Munich in 1938 and the occupation in March 1939. Through authentic stories, historical documents, photographs, and transport lists, it traces the gradual transformation of everyday life from persecution through deportations to the tragic fates in extermination camps.

About the venue: Great Synagogue in Plzeň

The Great Synagogue in Pilsen is the largest synagogue in the Czech Republic and the second largest in Europe. The monumental Neo-Romanesque building with Moorish elements, two 45-metre towers and a three-aisled layout was constructed in 1888–1892 to plans by Max Fleischer, revised by local builder Emanuel Klotz. It has been a listed cultural monument since 1992. Today it hosts religious services, guided tours, concerts and exhibitions; the interior underwent a major renovation in 2019–2022.
