Tenor Štefan Margita performs on Friday, 19 June 2026 at the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Brandýs Nad Labem-stará Boleslav. The basilica ranks among the most significant Marian pilgrimage sites in Bohemia and stands on the spot where St. Wenceslas was murdered in 935. This concert represents one of two Czech dates on the artist's tour. The basilica's interior, with its celebrated palladium - a bronze relief of the Virgin Mary - provides a distinctive setting for a classical performance.

About the venue: Bazilika Nanebevzetí Panny Marie

The early Baroque basilica in Stará Boleslav was built between 1613 and 1625, probably to a design by Italian architect Giovanni Maria Filippi under the direction of Jakob de Vaccani, making it the oldest Marian pilgrimage site in Bohemia. It houses the Palladium of the Bohemian Land - a gilded Madonna relief whose historical significance is compared to the crown jewels. The high altar of 1723 was designed by František Maxmilián Kaňka, with sculpture from the workshop of Matthias Bernard Braun. After extensive restoration, the basilica was ceremonially reopened on 1 January 2020.
