The solitary Owen and the somewhat aloof Fran have a conversation amid the roar of washing machines and the scent of fabric softener, one that begins with a complaint and ends with an unexpected wager on intimacy.

Will family obligations, which confront Fran with the story of her sisters, prevail, or will the anatomy of chance transform her entire life in an instant?
