Fortifications Through the Ages
Pevnost Dobrošov, Náchod
The exhibition "Fortifications Through the Ages" at Dobrošov Fortress presents models of fortification structures and maps the development of fortifications from prehistory to modern fortification objects. It will run from April 4 to October 30, 2026. Dobrošov Fortress is a national cultural monument – an unfinished artillery fort built in 1937–1938 as part of Czechoslovak border fortifications. Three of the seven planned structures were completed: infantry bunkers Můstek and Jeřáb and artillery bunker Zelený, connected by 1,750 metres of underground passages at depths of 20–39 metres. Visitors can explore three circuits: Circuit 1 (visitor centre with audiovisual exhibition), Circuit 2 (bunkers Můstek and Zelený with underground passages) and Circuit 3 (bunker Jeřáb, open in July, August and on public holidays). The exhibition allows visitors to try firing a cannon at tanks, mine detection, or watch bat flight in virtual reality. At the exhibition opening on April 4, there will be a dynamic demonstration of RC tank model battles at 1:6 scale in the fortress exterior (weather permitting) at 11 and 14 o'clock, as well as a spring creative workshop for children. Underground temperature is approximately 6–8 °C. Photography is included in the ticket price on all circuits; in the Jeřáb underground, flash photography is not permitted. Animals are not allowed on any circuit.
