The opening concert of Želiv Cultural Summer 2026 takes place on 20 June 2026 at 19:30 in the Abbot's Church at Želiv Monastery. A string quintet composed of Czech Philharmonic members will perform.

The programme features two chamber works: Michael Haydn's Quintet in C major and Dvořák's Quintet in E-flat major op. 97 "American".

About the venue: Klášter Želiv

The Premonstratensian monastery in Želiv was founded in 1139 by Prince Soběslav I, and has been home to Premonstratensians since 1149. After a fire in 1712, Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel rebuilt it in his distinctive Baroque Gothic style. In the 1950s the complex served as an internment camp for 464 clergy; today it is a national cultural monument with guided tours, a monastery brewery, hotel and restaurant.

About: Magdalena Mašlaňová

Magdaléna Mašlaňová is a Czech violinist serving as deputy concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic, a position she has held since 2012. She studied at the Prague Academy of Music under Prof. Ivan Štraus and later with Prof. Ben Sayevich at Park University in Missouri. Alongside her orchestral work, she is an active chamber musician and a member of the Czech Philharmonic String Quartet.

About: Jiří Poslední

Jiří Poslední is a Czech violist and member of the Czech Philharmonic. Since 2000 he has served as the violist of the České filharmonické kvarteto, an ensemble founded by members of the Czech Philharmonic that performs regularly in chamber music series and at festivals across Europe and beyond.

About: Pavel Ciprys

Pavel Ciprys (born 1973) is a Czech violist and 1st deputy leader of the viola section of the Czech Philharmonic, a post he has held since 2006. He studied at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno under Ladislav Kyselák and won the Beethoven's Hradec international competition in 1994. For over two decades he has been a member of the Apollon String Quartet, with more than 800 concerts to the ensemble's name. His solo debut CD, Viola Incognita, appeared in 2007.
