Description was written before the event
Against the backdrop of Stalinist Poland and modern Western Europe, a love story unfolds between singer Zula and composer Wiktor. They cannot live together, yet they are fatally drawn to each other and cannot bear to be apart. Against the settings of Warsaw, Berlin, and Paris, jazz and folk music resound as Zula and Wiktor play out the bitter ballad of their own cold war.
With this Kundera-inspired romantic epic, Paweł Pawlikowski builds on the success of the Oscar-winning Ida. The film was awarded the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
