Zdař Bůh, kamarádi!

Multifunkční aula Gong, Ostrava

The exhibition "Zdař Bůh, kamarádi!" was created at a time when coal mining in the Ostrava-Karviná region and throughout the Czech Republic came to an end after nearly 250 years. The opening reception took place on March 25, 2026 at 5:30 PM at the Gong Gallery in the Multifunctional Hall Gong in Dolní Vítkovice, and the exhibition is open to the public until June 7, 2026, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. The exhibition presents a "confession of centuries" – the story of mining in images, artifacts, and memories of mining families. Visitors will see historical photographs, chronicles, books, mining uniforms, and numerous unique objects. Works by artists with mining themes are featured: Vilém Wünsche, Ferdiš Duša, Vlastimil Rada, Julie Bérová, František Hřivna, Josef Štoloveský, and the monumental painting "Miners" by Josef Liesler. A powerful symbol of the exhibition is a replica of the last coal cart from the ČSM Mine in Stonavá, placed in front of the Gong building – coal extraction there was definitively ended on the night shift of January 31, 2026. After the exhibition closes, the replica will be donated to the Mining Museum in Landek Park. The exhibition also includes unique artifacts, such as the ceremonial "skin" used in the initiation of newcomers into the mining guild, or a charred piece of tree trunk approximately 11 million years old. The exhibition was created in cooperation with OKD, a.s. and VÍTKOVICE, a.s. at the initiative of Dolní Vítkovice.
