GSTDQ: Queen*ess
In 1587, the conflict between two queens culminated in the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots. Her cousin Elizabeth I had no choice. Executing her rival meant saving her own neck and her place in power.
Who are Elizabeth and Mary today? "Queen*ess" uses the tragic story of two monarchs as a starting point for a discussion about women in power. It asks what a woman must endure not only to reach power, but also to maintain it. It tells a story of rivalry, but also of hidden kinship. It speaks of objectification, of systemic pressure, and takes the audience into an absurd electoral game show.
"Queen*ess" is an original theatrical production that combines theatrical improvisation with other theatrical forms, giving the audience the opportunity to enter the action, bring their own opinions, and influence the final form of the production.
