Tom Mix, Cowboy Cavalier + Tom-Tony-Tiger

Tom Mix, one of the most famous actors in the history of Western cinema, won devoted fans in many countries. Evidence suggests that the community of his admirers in the First Czechoslovak Republic was exceptionally strong — and precisely because of this, a remarkable number of copies of films featuring Tom Mix (and his faithful horse Tony) found their way into the collections of the National Film Archive.

Mix worked with the genre's master John Ford only once (North to Hudson, 1923); most of his incredible approximately 270 films were directed by experienced professionals. What is remarkable is how Czech distributors managed to convey everything essential already in the titles — a viewer, especially a teenager, could hardly resist a poster proclaiming: Tom Mix, Cowboy Cavalier or Tom-Tony-Tiger!
