Accessibility, Participation, Care: Transformations and New Roles of Cultural Institutions — Trade Fair Palace, Prague

A colloquium exploring the evolving roles of cultural institutions in society, with emphasis on making art accessible, inclusion, and supporting well-being. Guests will present concrete examples from practice and demonstrate how cultural institutions respond to social, cultural, and political challenges while expanding their traditional functions toward care, participation, and engagement with diverse audiences.

The programme is divided into three thematic blocks. The first addresses well-being and new institutional roles, including projects linking art with mental health care and interdisciplinary collaboration. The second block focuses on inclusive practices, making art accessible to various audience groups, and developing participatory approaches. The third block opens the discussion on language as a communication tool – accessibility and clarity of texts, inclusive and gender-sensitive expression, and the role of language in creating a more open institutional environment.

The aim of the meeting is to share practices, identify barriers to their development, and foster dialogue among experts across institutions and disciplines. Further information and speaker names will be added soon.

The event is co-organized by the National Gallery Prague and the Jindřich Chalupecký Society.
