Monstrum — Theatre in Řeznická, Prague

Ubiquitous violence and twisted patterns can awaken a monster in each of us.

An inexperienced educator, frustrated from his previous job, is put in charge of a troubled and in everyone's eyes maladjusted violent young man. They are alone together in the classroom and wage an intense battle of words and will. The educator is the boy's last chance — either he finds a way to reach the uprooted boy living with his grandmother after his mother's suicide, learns to communicate with him and guide him, or the boy will be permanently expelled from school.

The play is an examination of parenthood, responsibility, and finding a way out of one's own confusion — in adolescence and adulthood. Young people, especially in puberty, are not a problem or a burden, but seeking "children" with a need for trust, love, and safety. It is a story about hope and about the harm a person causes through the wrong approach or bad decision.

Based on a tragedy at the Faculty of Philosophy, this topic is more urgent than ever — and that is precisely why it is important to perform and discuss it.
