Conversation with Tomáš Šebek: Surgeon with Doctors Without Borders
Kulturní dům Kladruby
Haiti, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Yemen – places marked by war, poverty and natural disasters, where every day decisions are made about human lives.
Tomáš Šebek worked repeatedly in these regions as a surgeon with Doctors Without Borders. He first became involved in humanitarian aid after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and described his experiences in the book Mission Haiti. This was followed by Mission Afghanistan: A Czech Surgeon in the Land of Dragon Hunters, African Winter and Heaven Over Yemen. In his latest book Objective Finding: My Hardest Mission, he returns to his own life journey and the decisions that fundamentally shaped it – from childhood to the change in his professional and personal direction.
Šebek is also the author of several reportage books and founder of the non-profit organization Minister of Health. At the conversation, he will talk about the conditions in which he worked and what lessons he brings back from these experiences.
