KunstKino: Self-Portrait as a Coffee-Pot (ENG) — Kunsthalle Praha, Prague

As part of the accompanying programme to the exhibition William Kentridge: The Battle Between YES and NO, Kunsthalle Praha presents a selection from the artist's series Self-Portrait as a Coffee-Pot by South African artist William Kentridge.

The series of three separate yet interconnected episodes was created in Kentridge's studio in Johannesburg between 2020 and 2022 and is partly inspired by Charlie Chaplin, Dziga Vertov, and early cinema. Kentridge appears not only as the author but also as a character – his drawn and performative alter ego intertwines with the motif of a coffee pot that transforms into an absurd yet precise self-portrait. Minimalist animation functions here as a visual diary of identity, memory, and doubt.

Before the screening, art and film critic and publicist Matěj Forejt will provide commentary on the series and the film work of William Kentridge.
