Marketa Lazarová

A cornerstone of Czech cinema, the film rhapsody by František Vláčil based on Vladislav Vančura's novel Marketa Lazarová, represents one of the most significant works of world cinema in the historical film genre. The story unfolds in the harsh times of the mid-thirteenth century. The brigand knight Kozlík finds himself and his large family in disfavour after his sons capture the young Saxon count Christian. The dangerous pursuer becomes Boleslaw's captain Pivo.
