Surviving Derrida

Surviving Derrida / Mexico, 2026 / 78 min. – Twenty years after the death of philosopher Jacques Derrida, the film Surviving Derrida embarks on an intimate and philosophical journey alongside one of his closest companions: Avital Ronell. Rather than a biographical portrait, it explores the ways Derrida's presence – embodied by those who survived him – continues to haunt, inspire, and provoke.

The film is composed of diverse, multi-layered conversations with his widow Marguerite Derrida, his son Pierre Alferi, and close friends Hélène Cixous, Suzanne Doppelt, and Anne Dufourmantelle. It thus takes the form of a cartography of friendship, loss, exile, and legacy – an essay on philosophical intimacy, poetic communication, and an unfinished process of farewell.

The European premiere of Surviving Derrida at Kino Atlas will take place in the presence of Avital Ronell. Following the screening, there will be a discussion with the audience.
