Dancing House – The Story of an Iconic Building

Tančící dům, Prague

The Dancing House: The Story of an Iconic Building exhibition was created for the 30th anniversary of the Dancing House opening (June 20, 1996) and is accessible from April 22 to October 18, 2026 in the Dancing House Gallery on two basement levels of the building. The exhibition presents the history of the structure, its architecture, and lesser-known moments of its creation – offering previously unpublished archival materials, newly discovered construction photographs, and extensive photographic documentation of the house's transformations over 30 years. The exhibition includes exceptional access to technical spaces and the interior courtyard, normally off-limits to visitors. On display are original glass tables by architect Eva Jiřičná, original doors, lighting fixtures, and office furniture from the 1990s. A special section of the exhibition – organized in collaboration with the Frank O. Gehry Foundation – focuses on the building's architects: visitors will see personal items and awards of Vlado Milunic and Václav Havel, original construction documentation, and period press. An exceptional exhibit is a model of the Dancing House by Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunic borrowed from the National Gallery Prague, complemented by a new detailed 1:25 scale model over two meters tall. The exhibition offers 3D visualizations on touch screens, digital presentations on iPads, and an accompanying program including guided tours. The exhibition was created with financial support from PSN and under the patronage of the Václav and Dagmar Havel Foundation Vision 97.
