The Centre for Contemporary Art EPO1, in collaboration with the city of Trutnov, continues the Sculptures in the Streets project, which annually brings contemporary art into public space. This year's third edition is titled "Ascent – L'envol" and is created by artist Iva Mrázková. Ten sculptures made of Corten steel – a material characterized by its rusty patina – are placed in two locations: five sculptures stand in the city centre (near the pedestrian zone below the Old Town Hall, on St. John's Square, and in front of the municipal office) and another five in front of Gallery EPO1 in a former power plant in Poříčí. The exhibition thus connects the city centre with the gallery. Iva Mrázková, despite her Czech roots, has lived in Luxembourg since 1989, where she is a recognized artist; in 2014 she was appointed honorary consul of the Czech Republic. She specially brought all ten sculptures from Luxembourg for Trutnov. This year's edition is deliberately different from the previous one – while last year featured figurative work (Martin Skalický), this year abstraction and metal dominate. The opening took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 5 p.m. – meeting at the Old Town Hall, with the walk continuing through the city streets. Entry to the event is free. The exhibition also marks the beginning of the new summer season at Gallery EPO1, which will open on Thursday, May 21, with the vernissage of several new exhibitions.
