When Death Grins... Karl Hermann Frank Before the Court of History

Památník Zámeček Pardubice, Pardubice

The Zámeček Memorial in Pardubice marks the 80th anniversary of the trial of Karl Hermann Frank with a panel exhibition and accompanying lecture. The opening of the exhibition "When Death Grins... Karl Hermann Frank Before the Court of History" takes place on May 6, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. The exhibition was created by historian PhDr. Vojtěch Kyncl, Ph.D., from the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, who is also the author of the memorial's permanent exhibition. In March 1946, an extraordinary people's court began in Prague against Karl Hermann Frank, a former state minister and symbol of Nazi power in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The death sentence was carried out on May 22, 1946 by public execution. Following the opening at 5:00 p.m., a lecture by Vojtěch Kyncl will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the cinema hall of the Zámeček Memorial, expanding on the exhibition with authentic audio recordings from the trial proceedings, recently discovered in the Czech Radio archive. Admission to the lecture is 50 CZK. The exhibition will be accessible during the memorial's regular opening hours (Tue–Fri, March–June). The exhibition and entire grounds are wheelchair accessible.
