R086: Slowly is Precisely, Precisely is Quickly – Puppets at the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre, DAMU 2010–2025

This exhibition at the North Bohemian Museum in Liberec documents 15 years of puppet-making instruction in the scenography studio of the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU (2010–2025), through which approximately sixty students have passed. The exhibition title refers to the designation of the workshop at the art university – room R086, where the subject Workshop Realization is taught within the scenography programme.

The exhibition is curated by Robert Smolík. Approximately 90 percent of the content consists of artefacts created directly during teaching – puppets that students made as part of their studies, often without prior experience in carving or construction. The exhibition deliberately includes early, imperfect works that their creators sometimes feel embarrassed about, because error is an integral part of the learning process.

The exhibition also features alumni memories of their studies and the workshop atmosphere. The exhibition is one of the accompanying events of Mateřinka, an international festival of professional puppet theatres. The opening took place on Thursday, 5 June 2025 at 18:00; the exhibition runs until early October 2025.
