Imprints of a Master's Hand

Muzeum Jana Amose Komenského v Uherském Brodě, Uherský Brod

The exhibition Imprints of a Master's Hand at the Jan Amos Comenius Museum in Uherský Brod recalls the ancient history of natural textile dyeing using plants and fruits. The dyeing craft appeared in our region in the 16th century and persisted in Uherský Brod until the first third of the 20th century. The exhibition is held on the occasion of 100 years since the death of Uherský Brod dyer Alfréd Dlabal – it features indigo-print forms and other objects from his workshop. The story of dyeing is complemented by Bedřich Kohn, who revealed the secrets of white linen printing and its dyeing. The exhibition also includes works by Jana Kubínová from Uherský Brod, who demonstrates the use of indigo printing in fashion and decorative objects enhanced with textile drawings. The exhibition runs from 13 March to 24 May 2026. During its run, two indigo-printing workshops are held: the first on Friday, 10 April (instructor Gabriela Bartošková from Strážnice) and the second on Saturday, 9 May (instructor Jana Kubínová from Uherský Brod). Further information on workshop participation conditions, prices, and duration is available on the museum website (www.mjakub.cz).
