Guided animal feeding sessions at Chomutov Zoo take place during the main season – from Earth Day in April through Animal Day in October. On weekends (Saturday and Sunday) they are held regularly, and daily during summer holidays. Visitors can enjoy guided feeding of harbour seals at the pool every day at 11 and 14 o'clock – among other things, you will learn how to reliably distinguish a seal from a sea lion. The zoo's icon is a male seal named Kašek, found as an orphaned pup on the Baltic Sea coast, now over forty years old. Outside the main season, seal feeding takes place without accompanying commentary. Another highlight is the river otters, which have returned to the zoo after forty years – in the Czech Republic they are listed as a specially protected and critically endangered species. Guided feeding of Barbary macaques – the only primates living wild in Europe – takes place every Saturday and Sunday (daily during summer holidays) and can also be observed from a newly renovated viewing bridge above the enclosure. The zoo spans 120 hectares and houses over 160 animal species with a focus on Palearctic fauna.
